Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb Ground turkey A lean protein alternative that keeps this meatloaf moist. Can substitute with ground chicken.
  • 1 medium Onion Adds a sweet and savory flavor. Use shallots for a milder taste.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Fresh is best, but garlic powder works too.
  • 1 cup Bread crumbs They help bind the loaf. Gluten-free option: substitute with oats.
  • 1 large Egg Binder that adds moisture. Flax eggs can be used for a vegan version.
  • 1/2 cup Milk Any kind of milk, including plant-based, will work.
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce For umami flavor. Soy sauce is a good substitute.
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup Classic topping for sweetness. BBQ sauce can be used for a smoky twist.
  • to taste Salt Essential for seasoning.
  • to taste Pepper Feel free to add favorite spices.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium skillet, heat a drizzle of oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened. Let it cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, sautéed onion and garlic, bread crumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, and a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until combined.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Form the mixture into a loaf shape and place it in a lightly greased baking dish or on a lined baking sheet.
  2. Spread ketchup over the top.
  3. Place it in the oven and bake for about 45-55 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  4. Let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Don’t overmix to avoid tough texture. You can add grated zucchini or shredded carrots for extra veggies. For quicker cooking, make mini loaves in muffin tins. Resting time is crucial for juicy slices.
