Ingredients

For the Apple Filling
  • 1 medium Granny Smith apple peeled, cored, finely diced
  • 2 tbsp light brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter melted
For the Bombs
  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough 8 oz, 8 pieces
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted, for brushing
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Optional Topping
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Small Mixing Bowl
  • Cutting Board
  • Sharp Knife
  • Pastry Brush

Method

Prepare the Apple Filling
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the finely diced apple, brown sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and 1 tbsp melted butter. Stir well to coat the apples evenly.
Prepare the Coating
  1. In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and 1 tsp ground cinnamon. Set aside.
Assemble the Bombs
  1. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into 8 triangles. Place about 1-2 tablespoons of the apple filling onto the wider end of each crescent roll triangle.
  2. Carefully fold the sides of the crescent roll dough over the apple filling, then roll it up towards the pointed end, sealing the edges completely to form a compact ball. Ensure no filling is exposed.
Cook in Air Fryer
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes, if your model requires preheating.
  2. Lightly brush each apple pie bomb with the remaining 2 tbsp melted butter.
  3. Place the bombs in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring not to overcrowd it. You will likely need to cook them in 2 batches (4 bombs per batch).
  4. Air fry for 6-8 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up, flipping halfway through cooking for even browning.
Coat and Serve
  1. Immediately remove the hot apple pie bombs from the air fryer and roll them in the prepared cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  2. Repeat cooking and coating steps for any remaining bombs.
  3. Serve warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar.

Notes

For best results, make sure the apple pieces are finely diced so they cook through quickly. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches to ensure even cooking and browning. These bombs are best served warm shortly after cooking. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 day, or refrigerated for up to 2 days. Reheat briefly in the air fryer or microwave for best texture.
