Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups Fresh Strawberries, hulled and sliced Use ripe, sweet strawberries for best flavor. Frozen strawberries can be used as an alternative.
  • 1/4 cup Sugar Adjust to taste. Brown sugar can be used for a deeper flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice Freshly squeezed is best, but bottled works too.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Optional, but adds warmth and depth.

Method

Preparation
  1. Wash and hull the strawberries, then slice them into halves or quarters.
Cooking
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the strawberries start to release their juices.
  3. Once the mixture begins to bubble, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove from heat and let the compote cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a chunkier texture, avoid cooking for too long. Freeze portions in freezer-safe containers for up to three months.
