Ingredients

Wonton Filling
  • 8 oz Cream cheese Softened; can use low-fat for a lighter option.
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar Adjust to taste; honey or agave syrup can be substituted.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Homemade is preferred for enhanced flavor.
  • 1 cup Fresh strawberries Chopped; can substitute with other berries.
Wontons
  • 12 pieces Wonton wrappers Found in the refrigerated section of grocery stores.
For Frying
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil For frying wontons.
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar For dusting before serving.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gently fold in the chopped strawberries.
Assembly
  1. Lay a wonton wrapper flat. Spoon about a teaspoon of the cheesecake filling onto the center of the wrapper.
  2. Dip your finger in water and run it along the edges of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper over to form a triangle, sealing the edges well to prevent leakage.
Cooking
  1. In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until it shimmers.
  2. Carefully add the filled wontons in batches to the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Serving
  1. Once slightly cooled, dust with powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness before serving.

Notes

Keep the filling airy by not overfilling the wontons. Be sure to seal edges tightly to avoid spills. Experiment with different fruits or chocolate chips as filling. A baked option is available for a lower calorie version.
