Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is well incorporated before adding the next. Add in the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
Baking
  1. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans, smoothing the tops.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For better mixing, use room temperature ingredients. Keep an eye on baking time to avoid dryness.
