Ingredients

Vegetable Ingredients
  • 2 cups Spinach, rinsed Can be substituted with kale or other leafy greens.
  • 1 cup Kale, stems removed Another great option for added health benefits.
Fruits
  • 1 medium Avocado, halved and flesh scooped out For creaminess; can substitute with nut butter.
  • 1 medium Banana, peeled and sliced Can use frozen bananas for a chillier smoothie.
  • 1 medium Apple, cored and chopped Any variety works; green apples add tartness.
Liquid Base
  • 1 cup Almond milk Can use coconut milk or any milk of choice.
Add-ins
  • 1 tablespoon Chia seeds Optional; adds omega-3s and fiber.

Method

Preparation
  1. Rinse the spinach and kale well.
  2. Cut the avocado in half and scoop out the flesh.
  3. Peel the banana and slice it for easier blending.
  4. Core and chop the apple.
Blending
  1. In a blender, combine the spinach, kale, avocado, banana, and apple.
  2. Pour in the almond milk to help everything blend smoothly.
  3. Add chia seeds, if using.
  4. Blend on high until creamy. Add more almond milk if too thick.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness with honey or maple syrup, if desired.
  6. Pour the smoothie into your favorite glass and enjoy.

Notes

For a colder smoothie, use frozen bananas and ice cubes. Consider adding lemon juice or ginger for extra flavor. If your blender struggles, blend leafy greens with almond milk first. This smoothie is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
