Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk Warm, but not hot to activate yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 4 cups all-purpose flour Adjust as needed for dough consistency
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Glaze Ingredients
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk For glaze
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract For glaze

Method

Preparation
  1. Dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, egg, and salt. Add the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually mix in flour until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle.
  6. Roll up tightly from one end and slice it into rolls.
  7. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Glazing
  1. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls and serve.

Notes

Store cooled rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for about 2 days. For longer storage, refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving. You can add cinnamon to the dough for a cinnamon roll variation.
