Ingredients

For the Quick Chamoy
  • 1/2 cup apricot preserves or jam
  • 2 tbsp lime juice freshly squeezed for best flavor
  • 1 tbsp chili powder mild or medium, e.g., ancho chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt or to taste
  • 2-4 tbsp water as needed for desired consistency

Equipment

  • Small Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk or spoon

Method

Combine Ingredients
  1. In a small mixing bowl, combine the apricot preserves, fresh lime juice, chili powder, and salt.
  2. Whisk vigorously with a small whisk or stir well with a spoon until all ingredients are thoroughly combined and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Gradually add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, whisking after each addition, until your desired consistency is reached. For a thinner sauce, add more water; for a thicker sauce, use less.
  4. Taste the chamoy substitute and adjust seasonings if necessary. You might want to add a pinch more salt, a dash more lime juice for tang, or a bit more chili powder for heat.
Serve and Enjoy
  1. Serve immediately over fresh fruit, corn, chips, or use as a delicious rim dip for beverages. Enjoy your quick and easy chamoy substitute!

Notes

This sauce is best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days. The consistency might thicken slightly upon refrigeration; simply add a splash of water and stir to loosen it up again if desired.
