Method
Prepare the Salmon
- Pat the salmon cubes dry with paper towels. This is crucial for crispiness.
- In a large mixing bowl, toss the salmon cubes with olive oil, cornstarch, and black pepper until evenly coated. The cornstarch helps create a crispy crust.
Make the Honey Garlic Sauce
- In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and grated ginger (if using) until well combined.
Air Fry the Salmon
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes. Lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray or a small amount of oil.
- Arrange the salmon bites in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring not to overcrowd it. Cook in batches if necessary.
- Air fry for 8-12 minutes, shaking the basket gently halfway through cooking (at the 4-6 minute mark), until the salmon is cooked through and lightly golden brown. Cooking time may vary slightly depending on your air fryer and salmon thickness.
Coat and Serve
- Once cooked, immediately transfer the hot salmon bites back to the large mixing bowl. Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce over the salmon and gently toss with tongs until each bite is thoroughly coated.
- Transfer the coated salmon bites to a serving dish. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
- Serve hot with rice, steamed vegetables, or a fresh salad.
Notes
For extra crispiness, ensure the salmon is very dry before coating with cornstarch. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches for best results. Overcrowding will steam the salmon instead of crisping it. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes.
