Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 2 cups Heavy cream Substitute with coconut cream for a dairy-free version.
  • 1 cup Whole milk You can use any milk, but whole provides the richest flavor.
  • 3/4 cup Granulated sugar Brown sugar can add a deeper flavor if you like.
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder Dark cocoa powder makes for a richer taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Always go for pure vanilla for the best results.
  • 1 pinch Salt Enhances all the sweet notes in the ice cream.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir until the sugar and cocoa are completely dissolved.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it’s hot but not boiling.
  3. Once warm, remove it from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let it cool for about 30 minutes.
  4. Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency (about 20-25 minutes).
  5. Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours, or until solid.

Notes

Pro Tips for Making the Recipe: Chill your ice cream maker bowl the night before. Use quality cocoa powder. Don’t rush the cooling process to prevent ice crystals. Sneak in mix-ins like chocolate chips during the last minutes of churning. Let it soften before serving for perfect scoops.
