Ingredients

  • 1 pound Fresh Asparagus ends trimmed
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1/2 tsp Salt or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper freshly ground, or to taste
  • 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese plus more for serving if desired
  • 1/4 tsp Red Pepper Flakes (optional, for a hint of heat)

Equipment

  • Large baking sheet
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Parchment Paper

Method

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Trim the woody ends off the asparagus spears. You can snap them off by hand or cut about an inch from the bottom.
Combine & Roast
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the trimmed asparagus, olive oil, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Toss well until the asparagus is evenly coated.
  2. Spread the seasoned asparagus in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Ensure the spears are not overlapping too much to promote even roasting.
  3. Roast for 10-12 minutes, or until the asparagus is bright green and slightly tender-crisp. Cooking time may vary based on the thickness of your asparagus.
Add Cheese & Finish
  1. Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the asparagus.
  2. Return the baking sheet to the oven and continue to roast for another 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden brown, and the asparagus is tender to your liking.
  3. Serve immediately as a delicious side dish. Garnish with a little extra fresh Parmesan if desired.

Notes

For best results, use fresh, vibrant green asparagus. Thinner spears will cook faster than thicker ones, so adjust roasting time accordingly. This dish is fantastic alongside grilled chicken, fish, or any main course. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently.
