- Brown the ground beef in a large pot. Drain off any extra grease.
- Add the chopped onions, carrots, and celery. Cook for a few minutes until the vegetables are softened.
- Pour in the beef broth. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir well. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for at least 20 minutes.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese during the last few minutes of cooking. Don't let it boil after adding the cheese, or it might become stringy.
