Base Ingredients
  • 4 cups Blueberries Fresh or frozen work beautifully. If using frozen, don’t worry about thawing first.
  • 1/4 cup Lemon Juice Fresh juice is best for flavor.
  • 3 cups Sugar Adjust based on taste preferences, or substitute with honey for a different flavor.
  • 1 package Pectin Can use liquid or powdered pectin, depending on what you have on hand.
  • 1 pinch Salt Just a pinch enhances the overall flavors.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Wash your blueberries and place them in a large saucepan. If using frozen berries, just dump them straight in.
  2. Pour in the fresh lemon juice and stir the blueberries gently.
Cooking
  1. Heat the saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the blueberries begin to release their juices, about 5 minutes.
  2. Once juicy, stir in the sugar, and sprinkle the pectin over the top. Mix well to combine.
  3. Increase the heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Boil for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
  4. To see if it’s jam-like, drop a spoonful on a cold plate and run your finger through it. If it holds its shape, you’re good to go!
  5. Remove the jam from heat, let it cool slightly, and then transfer it to clean jars.

Notes

Choose ripe berries for the best flavor, avoid overcooking to prevent the jam from becoming too thick, and sterilize jars for safe storage. Feel free to adjust sweetness levels based on your preference.
