Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Mix in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, blending until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
Baking
  1. Place the pans in the oven and bake for approximately 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother batter. Avoid overmixing to prevent a dense cake. Check for doneness a few minutes early as oven times can vary. Level tops if domed for even stacking.
