Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups All-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp Instant yeast (1 standard packet)
  • 1/2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 cup Warm milk 105-115°F (40-46°C)
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter melted, plus 1 tbsp for brushing after baking
  • 1 Large egg room temperature

Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Medium Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden Spoon or Spatula
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Clean kitchen towel

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix Dry Ingredients
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, instant yeast, and baking powder until well combined.
Mix Wet Ingredients
  1. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the warm milk, 1/4 cup melted butter, and the room temperature egg until smooth.
Combine and Knead Dough
  1. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until a shaggy, cohesive dough forms.
  2. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently for 2-3 minutes, just until the dough comes together and is mostly smooth. Avoid over-kneading, as these are quick rolls.
Form Rolls
  1. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth, round ball and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each roll.
Quick Rise and Bake
  1. Loosely cover the rolls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rest in a warm place for 10-15 minutes. This brief rest allows them to puff up slightly.
  2. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are beautifully golden brown.
Finish and Serve
  1. Immediately after removing from the oven, brush the tops of the hot rolls with the remaining 1 tablespoon of melted butter. This adds flavor and a lovely sheen.
  2. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

These rolls are best enjoyed fresh from the oven. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat briefly in the microwave or oven for best results. For an even richer flavor, you can add a pinch of garlic powder or dried herbs to the dry ingredients.
