Ingredients

Bread Dough
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Loaf Pans
  • Stand mixer (optional)

Method

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water and stir in the yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add salt and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture and mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each into a loaf.
  7. Place the loaves into greased loaf pans, cover, and let rise again for 30 minutes.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 28–30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Remove from pans and cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Brush the tops with melted butter right after baking for a softer crust and richer flavor.
