Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, stirring well after each. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts or sprinkles if using).
- Pour the dough into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for about 25-30 minutes until the edges are golden and a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
- Allow the bars to cool for about 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely, then cut into squares or rectangles.
Notes
Ensure eggs and butter are at room temperature for a smoother batter. Avoid overmixing to keep bars tender. Err on the side of slightly under-baking for optimal texture. Optionally, add red, white, and blue sprinkles for a festive touch.
